Who Am I ?

I am tart, sweet, spicy. I was not cooked or prepared by this blog's owner or her family but she and the rest sure enjoyed me. Who am I ?

Ok, as much as I would have liked to go with "madhuri dixit shrivelled up after dancing in the heat and with a hangover." (courtesy Bee), I have to say I enjoyed these much more than Madhuri Dixit with or without hangover

Indo was correct and Nupur hit the nail right on the head...THWACK !!!

These are indeed Chile Spiced Mango from Trader Joe's. Now I don't have a Trader Joe's in my vicinity but had heard so much about the store in the blogs I visit, that I simply had to make a stop on our recent DC trip. This is what happens when you Food Blog, you skip the President to meet Trader Joe, good decision any day.

Now I need to venture out to see if I can get them at the Wegman or Whole Foods, near my home and don't have to do the 198 miles each way to procure a packet of these luscious beauties.

Trivia: Trader Joe's , the chain began in 1958 as a Greater Los Angeles area chain of "Pronto Market" convenience stores. In response to strong competition from 7-Eleven, the chain differentiated its stores' offerings and doubled the floor space in 1967

  17. Skipping the president to meet TJ! You are too funny, and yes, I agree it is a better decision any old day :D
I would love this stuff even more if it was less sweetened, but I guess they have to cater to more sweet-loving palates. I have a TJ just 10 mins away, so next time you are craving something from there, let me know and I'll send it to you! Seriously!

  19. I suspected a fruit, but never would have guessed. Big thanks for this post, Sandeepa. Without it, I probably wouldn't have checked out TJ's website and found that the store proposed in my area is *finally* open. Yay!

  20. I would take TJ over meeting the President too! ;) There are a few TJs in NJ but not in Central NJ. I know there's one near Stamford too. The sliced mango must have been delicious!

Happy (belated) Diwali, San! Hope you had a good one.

I have been tardy in staying in touch lately thanks to hectic scheds but now I'm back ...:)

I know Florida seemed so much closer but if and when u guys plan a trip to North West, u gotta let me know....we'll definitely plan to meet up :)

  31. I missed the guessing game? I'm always late to these things....hmmmppfff!
We used to get chili flavored mango candy at a Mexican Flea market that I used to love and buy often...but lately, making the 100 mile journey doesn't seem worth it.

  32. He he so the game is over!(thank god!..you have escaped from a funny guess):)

I have never seen dried spiced mangoes..only fresh and spicy ;)

  33. Sandeepa, I did go on Wednesday to the new TJ's in Edgewater. It's much different fr/ Whole Foods - doesn't have the ultra high-end produce, meats or fish, but other products and the prices were amazing. I would have spent twice the $ at WF. And I did get the mango slices. Very, VERY good!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sandeepa, the TJ's was much smaller than WF, only 4-5 wide aisles, as I recall, and easy to get around. I was also impressed w/ the friendly service; they empty your cart at checkout as well as bag your groceries very quickly. Refreshing. They can't take WF's place for some things, but I can divide my business between them.
